Creating an email alias (20 free aliases)

Creating an email alias means letting an extra address (such as info@yourbusiness.com) arrive in an existing mailbox, without paying for a separate mailbox for it. With Mailflux it's simply included: you get 20 free aliases in every plan. You set it up in your webmail and it's done in a minute. Handy if you want a single inbox for info@, sales@ and your personal address.

If you first want to know what an alias exactly is and when to use one, read what is an email alias. A short conceptual explanation can be found in the term alias.

What you need

  • A Mailflux mailbox in which the alias should arrive.
  • Access to your webmail at webmail.mailflux.eu, or to the management of your Mailflux account.
  • The address you want to use as an alias, for example info@yourbusiness.com.
Email on your own domain

Creating an email alias: step by step

  1. Log in to your webmail and open the Settings menu (usually via the gear icon at the top right).
  2. Look for the section for identities or aliases. Depending on your account, you manage aliases here or in the account overview of Mailflux.
  3. Choose Add new alias and type the address you want, for example info@yourbusiness.com. The part after the @ is your own domain.
  4. Select the mailbox in which the mail for this alias should arrive.
  5. Save. The alias is now active and messages to that address will from now on appear in the chosen inbox.

If you also want to be able to reply from the alias, add it as an extra sender address (sometimes called an identity) when composing a message. That way it looks as if info@ has its own mailbox, while everything stays neatly in one mailbox. You can repeat this up to 20 times at no extra cost.

When do you choose an alias?

An alias is ideal for roles and moments where a separate mailbox would be overkill. Think of info@, sales@ or accounting@ all arriving with you, or a temporary address for a campaign or event that you simply remove again later. Because there is no separate mailbox behind it, you pay nothing extra for it and have only one inbox to keep an eye on.

If you work with colleagues, you can distribute aliases smartly: info@ to the mailbox that handles general questions, invoices@ to whoever does the accounting. If an address grows into something that really deserves its own mailbox, with its own password and its own storage, you can later convert it into a full mailbox. With 20 free aliases you have plenty of time to discover what works for you.

Not working?

  • Mail to the alias doesn't arrive. Check that the address is spelled correctly and that the alias is linked to the right mailbox.
  • You've run out of aliases. You get 20 free. If you need more, get in touch to see what's possible.
  • You can't send from the alias. First add the alias as an extra sender address in your webmail; otherwise your mail leaves from your main address.
  • The alias isn't in your program. Aliases are managed in the webmail. If you also want to see everything in a mail program, take a look at the IMAP server settings.

Done, and need help?

Once your alias is saved, messages arrive neatly and you keep your addresses organized in one inbox. Twenty aliases give you enough room to use a separate address per role or project.
