Checklist: setting up a professional email address

Why this checklist
Setting up a professional email address quickly feels more complicated than it is. By splitting it into separate steps you know exactly what you need to do now and what comes later. That way you don't miss anything important, such as connecting your domain or turning on two-factor authentication, and you're online within a day with an address that looks trustworthy from the start.
The checklist for a professional email address
Tick off as you go.
- 1. Choose your domain name. Take a short, recognisable name that suits your business, for example
yourbusiness.comoryourbusiness.co.uk. If you already have a domain for your website, you simply use that same domain. You'll find more background in email on your own domain. - 2. Decide on your email address. Choose a clear format and stick to it consistently, for example
firstname@yourbusiness.comorinfo@yourbusiness.com. If you work with colleagues, agree on one fixed pattern for everyone. Unsure about a term? Then check the glossary. - 3. Choose your plan. Decide how much storage and which features you need. Basic (8 GB) is enough for a reliable address; Pro (25 GB) and Premium (50 GB, up to 100 GB) add a calendar, task list and synchronisation via CardDAV and CalDAV. Prices start from €4.99 per mailbox per month, billed annually.
- 4. Connect your domain. If you bring an existing domain, you change a few DNS settings so your mail arrives at Mailflux. If you don't have a domain yet, Mailflux can register and manage one for you. It's described step by step in connecting your domain to your email.
- 5. Set up your devices. Do you prefer to work in the browser? Then you simply log in to webmail, no installation needed. Want a mail program on your computer or phone? Then you use the IMAP settings. That way your mail stays synced everywhere, on every device.
- 6. Turn on your security. Choose a strong, unique password and enable two-factor authentication (2FA) for an extra lock on your mailbox. Antivirus, anti-spam, anti-malware and automatic backups already run by default in every plan, so there's nothing you need to do for that.
