Setting up email in Apple Mail (Mac)
What you need
- Your full email address (for example
you@yourbusiness.be) and the password for that mailbox. - The server and port details for Mailflux. The ports are the default values below; the exact server name is in your Mailflux account or on the page IMAP and server settings.
- Apple Mail open on your Mac.
Not quite sure what runs behind your email address? Then read a short explanation of what email hosting is.

Setting up email in Apple Mail: step by step
- Open Mail and in the menu bar click Mail → Add Account.
- Choose Other Mail Account at the bottom and click Continue.
- Fill in your Name, your Email Address and your Password and click Sign In.
- Mail often reports that the account name or password could not be verified. That's normal with your own domain. Just fill in the rest manually.
- For Account Type choose the option IMAP.
- For Incoming Mail Server enter the Mailflux server name and for Outgoing Mail Server the same server name.
- Make sure your User Name is your full email address each time.
- Click Sign In. Mail automatically uses port 993 with SSL/TLS for incoming and port 465 with SSL/TLS for outgoing.
- Tick Mail and click Done.
Your mailbox now appears in the list on the left and your messages are being fetched.
IMAP or POP?
Choose IMAP, as above. That way your messages stay on the server and you see the same mailbox with the same folders on your Mac, iPhone and in the webmail every time. POP pulls your mail down to one device and usually deletes it from the server, inconvenient as soon as you mail on more than one device.
Not working?
- Password is not accepted. Watch out for typos and capitals, and use the password for your mailbox, not your Apple ID.
- Can't verify account. That message is normal with your own domain. Fill in the servers manually with the values above.
- No connection. Check the server name and that you're using port 993 with SSL/TLS for incoming.
- Sending doesn't work. Go to Mail → Settings → Accounts → your account → Server Settings and check that the outgoing server (SMTP) has your full email address as the user name and port 465 with SSL/TLS.
- Still stuck? The full, up-to-date server values are on IMAP and server settings.
Done, and need help?
Send yourself a test message and send one straight back. If both arrive neatly, Apple Mail is set up correctly. By the way, you don't need to install anything to read your Mailflux mail: the webmail works on any device directly in your browser. Apple Mail is handy if you'd rather manage everything in one fixed program.
Would you rather not do it yourself? We'll help you personally on your way. Request your mailbox with no obligation and we'll set it up together.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Why does Apple Mail say it can't verify my account?
With your own domain, Mail can't always look up the servers itself, and then that message appears. Just fill in the incoming and outgoing server manually with the values above and click Sign In. As soon as your details are correct, Mail connects.
Does my email disappear if I remove the account from my Mac?
No. Because you use IMAP, your messages are on the server, not only on your Mac. If you remove the account, your mails remain visible in the webmail and on your other devices. So you lose nothing.
