Setup & how-to

Setting up email on iPhone/iPad (iOS)

You set up your Mailflux mailbox on your iPhone or iPad via the standard Mail app and the iOS settings. You add your account via IMAP, so that your messages stay on the server and stay in sync across all your Apple devices. No worries if you're not technical: you simply copy over the fields below, and we'll walk you through them.

Reading and managing email in the webmail, on any device

What you need

  • Your full email address (for example you@yourbusiness.be) and the password of that mailbox.
  • Mailflux's server and port details. The ports are the default values below; the exact server name is in your Mailflux account or on the page IMAP and server settings.
  • An iPhone or iPad, with an internet connection.

Setting up email on iPhone/iPad: step by step

  1. Open Settings and go to AppsMailMail Accounts. (On older iOS versions this is SettingsMailAccounts.)
  2. Tap Add Account and choose Other at the bottom.
  3. Tap Add Mail Account.
  1. Enter your Name, your Email, the Password and a Description (for example "Work") and tap Next.
  2. Make sure IMAP is selected at the top (not POP).
  3. Under Incoming Mail Server: enter the Mailflux server name as the Host Name, with your full email address as the Username and your Password.
  4. Under Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): again enter the Mailflux server name as the Host Name, with your full email address as the Username and your Password.
  1. Tap Next. iOS checks the connection (this may take a moment) and automatically uses port 993 with SSL for incoming and port 465 with SSL for outgoing.
  2. Tap Save. Your account is now in the Mail app.

Open the Mail app and your messages are retrieved.

IMAP or POP?

Choose IMAP, as above. That way your messages stay on the server and you see the same mailbox on your iPhone, iPad and computer every time. POP pulls your mail to a single device and usually deletes it from the server, inconvenient if you email on more than one device.

Not working?

  • Password isn't accepted. Watch for typos and capital letters, and use the password of your mailbox, not your Apple ID.
  • Verification keeps hanging. Go to SettingsAppsMail → your account → AccountSMTP and check that SSL is on for the outgoing server, port 465 is filled in and password authentication is on.
  • Can't connect. Check the Host Name and that you're using port 993 with SSL for incoming.
  • Mail comes in but sending doesn't work. Check on the outgoing (SMTP) server that your full email address is filled in as the username.
  • Still stuck? The full, up-to-date server values are on IMAP and server settings.

Done, and need help?

Send yourself a test message and send one back. If both arrive nicely, your iPhone or iPad is set up correctly. Prefer to use the Outlook app on your iPhone? Then the guide setting up email in the Outlook app will help you further.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

I can't find 'Mail Accounts' in Settings. Where is it?

On recent iOS versions you go via SettingsAppsMailMail Accounts. On older versions it's under SettingsMailAccounts. From there you tap Add Account and choose Other to add your Mailflux mailbox.

Will my email disappear if I remove the account from my iPhone?

No. Because you're using IMAP, your messages are on the server, not just on your device. If you remove the account from your iPhone, your mail is still visible in the webmail and on your other devices.
