Setup & how-to

Setting up email in Outlook for Mac

Setting up email in Outlook for Mac is sorted in a few minutes. You add your Mailflux mailbox via IMAP, so your messages stay on the server and keep in sync on every device. You need no technical knowledge for this: you type your details over and choose the right servers, and Outlook does the rest itself. We'll walk you through it step by step.

What you need

  • Your full email address (for example you@yourbusiness.com) and the password of that mailbox.
  • The server and port details from Mailflux. The ports are the default values below; the exact server name can be found in your Mailflux account or on the page IMAP and server settings.
  • Outlook for Mac, installed and opened.

Email on your own domain

Setting up email in Outlook for Mac: step by step

  1. Open Outlook and click in the menu bar on OutlookSettingsAccounts. On a first start this screen opens by itself.
  2. Click + at the bottom left and choose New account.
  3. Type your email address and click Continue.
  1. Outlook tries to find the settings itself. With your own domain that doesn't always work. Then choose IMAP as the account type.
  2. For Incoming server enter the Mailflux server name, with port 993 and connection security SSL/TLS on.
  3. For Outgoing server (SMTP) enter the Mailflux server name, with port 465 and SSL/TLS on.
  4. Make sure your Username is always your full email address and enter your Password.
  1. Click Add account and then Done.

Your mailbox now appears on the left in the folder list and your messages are fetched.

IMAP or POP?

Stick with IMAP, as above. With IMAP your messages stay on the server and you see the same mailbox with the same folders on your Mac, your phone and in the webmail every time. POP fetches your mail to a single device and usually removes it from the server, so you can no longer find it elsewhere.

Not working?

  • Password is rejected. Check for typos and capitals, and use the password of the mailbox itself.
  • Automatic configuration finds nothing. That's expected with your own domain. Choose IMAP and enter the servers manually as above.
  • No connection. Check that you have SSL/TLS enabled for port 993 (incoming) and 465 (outgoing) and that the server name is correct.
  • Receiving works but sending doesn't. Check that the outgoing server (SMTP) uses your full email address as the username.
  • Still stuck? The complete, up-to-date server values are on IMAP and server settings.

Done, and need help?

Send yourself a test message and reply to it straight away. If both arrive neatly, Outlook for Mac is set up correctly. By the way, you don't have to install anything to read your Mailflux mail: the webmail works directly in your browser on every device. Outlook is handy if you'd rather manage everything in one fixed program.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Why doesn't Outlook for Mac recognize my settings automatically?

With your own domain, Outlook can't always look up the servers itself. That's why you choose IMAP as the account type and enter the incoming and outgoing server manually with the values above. As soon as your details are correct, Outlook connects immediately and fetches your messages.

Can I use multiple Mailflux mailboxes in Outlook for Mac?

Yes. Repeat the steps for each mailbox via OutlookSettingsAccounts+. Each mailbox gets its own folder list, while thanks to IMAP your messages stay on the server and keep in sync on all your devices.
