Setting up email in Outlook (Windows): step by step

Setting up your email in Outlook for Windows takes just a few minutes. You add your Mailflux mailbox via IMAP, so your messages stay on the server and are synced with your other devices. Don't worry if you're not technical: really all you need to do is copy the fields below. We'll go through them with you step by step.

Reading and managing email in the webmail, on any device

What you need

  • Your full email address (for example you@yourbusiness.be) and the password of that mailbox.
  • The server and port details from Mailflux. The ports are the default values below; you'll find the exact server name in your Mailflux account or on the page IMAP and server settings.
  • Outlook for Windows, already installed and open.

Not sure whether to choose IMAP or POP? Have a look at IMAP or POP: which do you choose. For most people IMAP is the right choice.

Setting up email in Outlook: step by step

  1. Open Outlook and go to FileAdd account.
  2. Enter your full email address and click Advanced options.
  3. Tick Let me set up my account manually and click Connect.
  4. Choose IMAP as the account type.
  1. Under Incoming mail, enter the Mailflux IMAP server, with port 993 and encryption SSL/TLS.
  2. Under Outgoing mail, enter the Mailflux SMTP server, with port 465 and encryption SSL/TLS.
  1. Click Next, enter the password of your mailbox and click Connect.
  2. Outlook checks the connection and reports when your account is ready. Click Done.

Your mailbox now appears on the left in Outlook and your messages are retrieved.

Check that everything works

Send yourself a test message from another address and check whether it comes in. Then send a mail from Outlook to yourself to also check sending. If both arrive neatly, your account is set up correctly. If you see an error message, skip to the block below.

Prefer no installation?

You don't have to install anything to use your Mailflux mail: the webmail works directly in your browser, on any device. Setting up Outlook is handy if you'd rather manage your mail in one fixed program, but it's not a requirement: you can always log in to the webmail.

Not working?

  • Password isn't accepted. Check for typos and that Caps Lock is off. Use the password of the mailbox itself, not your Windows password.
  • Can't connect. Check the server name and that you chose SSL/TLS for both port 993 (incoming) and 465 (outgoing).
  • Outgoing mail doesn't work. On the outgoing server, switch on that authentication is required with the same username and password as the incoming server.
  • Still stuck? The full, up-to-date server values are on IMAP and server settings.
