Setting up email in Thunderbird
What you need
- Your full email address (for example
you@yourbusiness.be) and the password of that mailbox. - The server and port details from Mailflux. The ports are the default values below; you'll find the exact server name in your Mailflux account or on the page IMAP and server settings.
- Thunderbird, installed and open on your computer.

Setting up email in Thunderbird: step by step
- Open Thunderbird and click the menu (the three lines) at the top right → New → Existing email account. On a first launch this screen opens by itself.
- Enter your Full name, your Email address and the Password of your mailbox.
- Click Configure manually. That way you set the servers yourself instead of relying on automatic detection.
- Under Protocol choose the option IMAP.
- Under Incoming server enter the Mailflux server name, with port 993, connection security SSL/TLS and authentication method Normal password.
- Under Outgoing server (SMTP) enter the Mailflux server name, with port 465, connection security SSL/TLS and Normal password.
- Make sure your Username is your full email address each time, for both incoming and outgoing.
- Click Re-test so Thunderbird checks the settings, and then Done.
Your mailbox now appears on the left in the folder list and your messages are retrieved.
IMAP or POP?
Stick with IMAP, as above. With IMAP your mails stay on the server and you see the same mailbox with the same folders on every computer or phone. POP downloads the messages to one device and usually removes them from the server, so you can no longer find them elsewhere.
Not working?
- Password is rejected. Check for typos and capitals, and use the password of the mailbox itself.
- Automatic configuration finds nothing. That's normal with your own domain. Click Configure manually and enter the servers as above.
- No connection. Check that you chose SSL/TLS for both port 993 (incoming) and 465 (outgoing) and that the server name is correct.
- Sending fails. Make sure the outgoing server (SMTP) uses authentication with Normal password and your full email address.
- Still stuck? The full, current server values are on IMAP and server settings.
Done, and need help?
Send yourself a test message and send one back. If both arrive neatly, Thunderbird is set up correctly. By the way, you don't need to install anything to read your Mailflux mail: the webmail works directly in your browser, on any device. Thunderbird is handy if you prefer to manage everything in one fixed program.
Would rather not tinker yourself? We'll help you personally with the setup. Request your mailbox with no obligation and we'll set it up together.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Why doesn't Thunderbird's automatic configuration find my settings?
With your own domain, Thunderbird can't always look up the servers itself. In the account wizard, click Configure manually and enter the incoming and outgoing server with the values above. As soon as you click Re-test, Thunderbird checks everything for you.
Can I use multiple Mailflux mailboxes side by side in Thunderbird?
Yes. Repeat the steps for each mailbox via the menu → New → Existing email account. Each mailbox gets its own folder list in Thunderbird, while thanks to IMAP your messages stay on the server and in sync everywhere.
